Trades with parent oversight

Children can swap chores with each other or offload one to a sibling, spending tokens to do so. Every trade goes through a parent approval step before it takes effect.

  • Swap & offload
A swap (⇄) exchanges two chores between children, both paying 1 token. An offload lets one child pay another to take a chore on.
  • Recent trade history
All approved trades are logged with the chore name, direction, and date — so you can track who traded what at any time.
  • 🪙

Build the perfect incentive scheme

One active scheme per family per month. Five trigger types let you reward different behaviours — from a single perfect week to maintaining a streak all month long.

  • 🎯
    Perfect week & threshold
Reward children who hit 100% in a week, or set a lower bar (e.g. 80%) for an "effort reward" — so they're still motivated even after missing one chore.
  • 🔥
    Streak milestones
Set rewards that unlock after consecutive qualifying weeks — 2 in a row, 4 in a row — to build lasting habits.
  • Task bonuses
Attach a specific reward to an individual chore. The moment that chore is confirmed complete, the reward triggers automatically.
  • 72-hour setup window
After zone rotation (or family creation) you have 72 hours to create the scheme. After that you can edit an existing one but not create a new one until next rotation.

Step-by-step instructions, role permissions, troubleshooting and everything in between — all in one place.

Getting Started

Everything you need to create your profile, join your family and log in. Family Hub runs entirely in the browser — no app to install.

ℹ Where to find the app
Live: app.nyefome.uk  ·  Test environment: available on request
Creating your account

New to Family Hub? Start here. You'll create a profile, set a PIN, then either create a new family or join an existing one.

  1. 1
    Open the app
Go to app.nyefome.uk in your browser on any device.
  2. 2
    Create a profile
Tap "Create a profile". Enter your display name and choose an avatar colour.
  3. 3
    Set a 4-digit PIN
Choose a PIN you'll remember — this is your password every time you log in.
  4. 4
    Create or join a family
Create a new family (you become its first Admin) or enter a join code given to you by your family's Admin.
  5. 5
    Wait for approval
If joining an existing family, an Admin must approve your join request before you can access the family dashboard.
Logging in
  1. 1
    Enter your username
Type the username you chose when creating your profile, then tap Continue.
  2. 2
    Enter your PIN
Use the on-screen keypad to tap your 4-digit PIN. Each press fills one of the four dots.
  3. 3
    You're in
You land on your role's dashboard automatically — Admin, Parent or Child view.
✓ Forgotten your PIN?
Tap "Forgot PIN?" on the login screen to send a reset request. Your Admin generates a temporary PIN. Log in with it and you'll be prompted to set a new permanent PIN straight away.
Inviting family members

Share your family join code with new members. They create a profile, enter the code, and a join request appears on your Admin dashboard. Approve it to add them.

ℹ Finding your join code
On the Admin dashboard, scroll to the "Family Code" card. Tap Copy to put it on the clipboard — then send it via WhatsApp, text, or however you communicate.
Managing your profile

Tap the ⚙ gear icon on your dashboard to access profile settings. From here you can update your display name or change your PIN (your current PIN is required to confirm both changes).

Roles & Permissions

Every user has one of four roles. Your role controls what screens you see and what actions you can take. Roles are set by Admins and can be changed at any time (within the limits below).

The four roles
Super Admin Super Admin

Platform-level access across all families. Can manage every family, add or remove other Super Admins, manage the global chore library, and archive or unarchive families. Typically used only by the app owner.

Admin Admin

Full control within a family. Can manage members, approve join requests, open and close monthly cycles, manage zones and the chore library, configure reward schemes, approve trades and reset PINs. Maximum two Admins per family.

Parent Parent

Can view all chores across the family, confirm or query completed chores, assign ad-hoc tasks, approve or reject trades, gift tokens and manage reward schemes when granted access by an Admin.

Child Child

Personal dashboard showing only their own chores, token balance and reward progress. Can mark chores as done, initiate trade requests, and view earned rewards. Cannot see other children's data.

⚠ Role change rules
An Admin cannot change their own role. The last Admin in a family cannot be demoted — there must always be at least one. Maximum of two Admins per family at any time.

Changing a member's role

Admins can change the role of any other member from the member management screen. Tap the role badge next to a member's name — a sheet appears with the available options. Changes take effect immediately.

PIN resets
  1. 1
    Child requests reset
Child taps "Forgot PIN?" on the login screen. A reset request is sent to all Admins in the family.
  2. 2
    Admin generates temp PIN
Admin goes to member management, finds the pending request and taps "Generate temp PIN". A temporary code is displayed.
  3. 3
    Admin shares the code
Admin shares the temporary PIN with the child directly — in person or via message.
  4. 4
Child logs in and sets new PIN
Child logs in with the temporary PIN and is immediately prompted to set a permanent replacement before accessing the app.
Chore Tracker

Chores are grouped into zones assigned to children for the month. At month end, zones rotate automatically. Chores can repeat daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.

ℹ Chore origin badges
REG — Regular scheduled chore  ·  AD-HOC — One-off task assigned by a parent  ·  SWAP — Received via a trade  ·  OFFLOAD — Taken on from another child
Setting up zones (Admin)
  1. 1
    Create zones
From the Admin dashboard, go to Zones → Manage and tap "+ Add zone". Name each zone (e.g. "Downstairs", "Garden").
  2. 2
    Add chores to zones
Open a zone and tap "+ Add chore". Select from the global library or create a new one. Set the frequency: daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
  3. 3
    Assign zones to children
Use the zone assignment section on the Admin dashboard to give each zone to a child for the current month.
  4. 4
    Open the month
Tap "Open month" to generate all chore instances for the cycle. Children can now see and mark their chores.
Marking chores done (Child)
  1. 1
    Find your chore
On your dashboard, tap the Chore Tracker tile to see your chores grouped by frequency.
  2. 2
    Mark it done
Tap "Mark done" next to the chore. It moves to pending confirmation status.
  3. 3
    Wait for confirmation
A parent or Admin confirms or queries. If no action is taken within 48 hours, the chore auto-confirms.
✓ 48-hour auto-confirm
If a parent doesn't confirm or query a completed chore within 48 hours, it automatically confirms — so the tracker never gets blocked by a busy parent.
Reading the daily progress bar

Daily chores show a 7-segment bar representing Mon–Sun of the current week. Each segment is colour-coded:

ColourMeaning
🟢 GreenDone and confirmed by a parent
🟡 AmberToday — pending action (mark done or confirm)
🔴 RedLapsed — the day passed without being marked done
⬜ GreyFuture day — not yet due
Reading the weekly pills (W1–W5)

Weekly and bi-weekly chores show a pill for each week of the month. The active week is amber. Confirmed weeks are green with a ✓. Lapsed weeks are red. Bi-weekly chores show strikethrough on skipped weeks.

Assigning ad-hoc tasks (Parent / Admin)

From the chore tracker, tap "+ Assign task to child". Choose the child, describe the task, optionally attach a reward from the catalog, and confirm. The task appears immediately on the child's tracker. Children can also self-assign available ad-hoc tasks — doing so sends a parent notification to review and assign a reward.

Opening and closing the month
  1. 1
    Close the month
At month end, tap "Close month" on the Admin dashboard. This locks the cycle, finalises all chore statuses and triggers the reward evaluation engine.
  2. 2
    Zone rotation
Runs automatically on close — each child moves to the next zone in the rotation order.
  3. 3
    Open the new month
Tap "Open month" to generate chore instances for the new cycle. You have a 72-hour window after rotation to set up the reward scheme.
Weekly summaries & reporting

A weekly summary is generated every Monday covering the previous week. Tap "View" on the green summary banner to see completion rates per child. The Reporting module (accessible from the Admin dashboard) provides monthly and quarterly completion trend charts for the whole family.

Trades & Tokens

Children can swap chores with each other or offload one to a sibling, spending tokens to do so. Every trade requires parent approval before it takes effect.

The token system

Every child receives 2 tokens at the start of each month. Unspent tokens carry forward, up to a maximum of 4 carried tokens at any time. Parents and Admins can gift bonus tokens — these are uncapped and spent last.

TypeSourceCapSpent
MonthlyAuto-issued at cycle start2 per month1st
CarriedUnspent monthly tokensMax 4 total2nd
BonusGifted by Parent / AdminUncappedLast
ℹ Quarterly reset
Token balances reset each quarter (January, April, July, October). Tokens do not carry across quarter boundaries — plan trades accordingly.
Swap trades

A swap exchanges one chore for another between two children. Both children pay 1 token. The initiating child offers one of their chores and picks one of the other child's in return.

  1. 1
    Start a trade
Go to "Trades & tokens" on your dashboard and tap "Propose a trade".
  2. 2
    Choose Swap
Select "Swap" as the trade type.
  3. 3
    Pick your chore and theirs
Choose one of your chores to offer, then choose which of the other child's chores you want in return.
  4. 4
    Submit
Confirm and send. The other child is notified.
  5. 5
    Parent approval
Once both children agree, a parent or Admin must approve before the swap takes effect.
Offload trades

An offload lets a child pay another child to take on one of their chores. The initiating child pays 1 token; the recipient accepts or declines for free.

⚠ Task bonus forfeit
If the chore being traded has a task bonus reward attached, an amber warning appears naming the reward that will be forfeited if you proceed. The trade can still go ahead — but the bonus is lost.
Trade guards

The app enforces several checks before allowing a trade to be submitted:

GuardRule
Sufficient tokensThe initiator must have at least 1 token to spend.
No active tradeNeither child can be mid-trade on the same chore.
Chore not lockedA chore awaiting confirmation cannot be traded.
Recipient token checkFor swaps, the recipient must also have at least 1 token.
Approving trades (Parent / Admin)

Pending trade requests appear in the "Trades & tokens" section of the parent or Admin dashboard. Tap the trade to review the details — both chores involved, the children, and any bonus forfeit warning — then approve or reject. Both children are notified of the outcome immediately.

Gifting tokens

From the Trades & Tokens parent view, scroll to "Gift tokens to a child". Select a child, use the stepper to choose the amount, and confirm. Gifted bonus tokens are added to the child's balance immediately and can be seen on their dashboard.

Rewards

The rewards module lets parents define what children can earn each month and how. One scheme is active per family per month, with five types of earning trigger.

The five reward triggers
TriggerHow it fires
🎯 Perfect weekChild completes every chore in a given week without any lapses.
📊 Threshold %Child reaches a set completion % for the week (e.g. 80%) — rewards effort even after one miss.
🔥 Streak milestoneChild achieves a run of qualifying weeks in a row (e.g. 3 weeks, 4 weeks).
⭐ Task bonusA specific reward attached to an individual chore — triggers automatically when that chore is confirmed.
📅 Monthly completionChild reaches an overall % for the entire month, evaluated when the Admin closes the month.
Setting up a scheme
  1. 1
    Open Rewards
From the Admin or Parent dashboard, tap the Rewards module tile.
  2. 2
    New scheme
Tap "New scheme". Choose "Start from scratch" or "Use a template" if you've saved one previously.
  3. 3
    Name it
Give the scheme a meaningful name (e.g. "Summer Challenge", "May Madness").
  4. 4
    Select children
Use the child selector tiles. Trigger settings can be configured differently per child.
  5. 5
    Configure triggers
For each trigger type, set the qualifying condition and choose a reward from the catalog.
  6. 6
    Save
Tap "Save scheme". It becomes active immediately and can be edited at any point during the month.
⚠ 72-hour setup window
You have 72 hours after the monthly zone rotation (or after family creation for new families) to create a new scheme. After the window closes you can still edit an existing scheme, but cannot create a brand new one until the next rotation.
The reward catalog

The catalog is a reusable library of reward entries — things like "£5 cash", "Cinema trip" or "30 min extra screen time". Build the catalog first, then reference entries when configuring scheme triggers or ad-hoc task rewards. Entries can be reused across months and schemes.

Task bonuses

Task bonuses attach a specific reward to a single chore. When that chore is confirmed complete, the reward triggers automatically — no manual action needed from a parent. Task bonuses are configured per child within the scheme form, with chores grouped by frequency for easy selection.

⚠ Trading a bonus chore
If a child initiates a trade on a chore that has a task bonus attached, an amber warning appears naming the reward that will be forfeited. The trade can still proceed — but the bonus is permanently lost for that cycle.
Ad-hoc rewards

Parents and Admins can create one-off tasks for children with an optional reward attached, outside of the regular scheme. Children can also self-assign available ad-hoc tasks — doing so notifies the parent to review and assign a reward.

Scheme templates

Once you've built a scheme you're happy with, save it as a template from the scheme detail screen. Next month (or for a new family), tap "New scheme → Use a template" to load it instantly. Templates can be renamed or deleted from the template library. You cannot apply a template while an active scheme already exists.

Issuing rewards

When a trigger fires, the earned reward appears in the pending list on the parent/Admin rewards screen. Once you've given the reward to the child in real life, tap "Mark issued" to clear it from the list. Children can see their earned-but-not-yet-issued rewards at the top of their rewards screen.
