Trades with a safety net

Children spend tokens to swap chores with each other or hand one off to a sibling. Every trade goes through a parent approval step — so nothing changes without you knowing.

  • Swaps and offloads
A swap (⇄) exchanges two chores between children, both paying 1 token. An offload lets one child pay another to take a chore on — only the initiator pays.
  • Trade history
All approved trades are logged with the chore names, direction and date — you can always see what was traded and when.
  • 🪙
    Gift bonus tokens
Reward great effort by gifting extra tokens directly to any child. Bonus tokens are uncapped and spent last.

Five ways to earn, one monthly scheme

Build a reward scheme at the start of each month. Five trigger types let you reward different things — completing every chore in a week, keeping a streak going, hitting a target, finishing a specific chore, or a great month overall.

  • 🎯
    Perfect week & threshold
Reward a flawless week, or set a lower bar like 80% so children are still motivated even after missing one chore.
  • 🔥
    Streak milestones
Set rewards that unlock after several qualifying weeks in a row — great for building lasting habits.
  • Task bonuses
Attach a reward to a specific chore. The moment it's confirmed done, the reward fires automatically — no parent action needed.
  • 72-hour setup window
After the month opens, you have 72 hours to create the scheme. You can always edit it during the month once it's set up.

Getting Started

Which one are you? The steps are slightly different depending on whether you're setting the family up for the first time, or joining one that already exists.

👋
Joining a family
Someone has invited you and given you a join code. Start here.
🏠
Setting up a new family
You're the Admin creating the family from scratch. Start here.
Joining a family
ℹ Before you start
Make sure you have the family join code from your Admin — you'll need it in step 4.
  1. 1
    Go to app.nyefome.uk
Open the app in any browser on your phone, tablet or computer.
  2. 2
    Tap "Create a profile"
Enter your name, choose an avatar colour, and pick a username you'll remember.
  3. 3
    Set a 4-digit PIN
Choose a PIN you'll remember — this is all you need to log in every time.
  4. 4
    Enter the join code
Tap "Join a family" and enter the code your Admin gave you.
  5. 5
    Wait for approval
Your Admin will see your request and approve it. Once they do, you'll have full access to your dashboard.
Setting up a new family (Admin)
  1. 1
    Create your profile
Go to app.nyefome.uk, tap "Create a profile", set your name, colour and PIN.
  2. 2
    Create a family
Tap "Create a family", give it a name — you automatically become the first Admin.
  3. 3
    Share the join code
Find the family code on your Admin dashboard. Share it with each family member so they can create their profiles and join.
  4. 4
    Approve join requests
As each member joins, you'll see their request on your dashboard. Approve them to add them to the family.
  5. 5
    Set up zones and chores
Go to the Chore Tracker and create zones (e.g. Kitchen, Garden). Add chores to each zone, assign zones to children, then open the month to generate everyone's chore list.
  6. 6
    Set up your reward scheme
Go to Rewards and create your first scheme within 72 hours of opening the month. You can start simple and add more triggers over time.
✓ Good to know
As Admin you can add a second Admin (max 2 per family), and promote any member to Parent to share the load of confirming chores and managing rewards.
Logging in
  1. 1
    Enter your username
Type the username you chose when creating your profile, then tap Continue.
  2. 2
    Enter your PIN
Tap your 4-digit PIN on the on-screen keypad. Each press fills one of the four dots.
  3. 3
    You're in
You'll land straight on your dashboard — Admin, Parent or Child view depending on your role.
✓ Forgotten your PIN?
Tap "Forgot PIN?" on the login screen. Your Admin generates a temporary PIN — use it to log in and you'll be asked to set a new permanent one straight away.
Managing your profile

Tap the ⚙ gear icon on your dashboard to access settings. You can update your display name or change your PIN (you'll need to enter your current PIN to confirm either change).

For Children

This section is just for you. Here's everything you need to know about using Family Hub — from checking your chores to proposing a trade with your sibling.

Your dashboard

When you log in you go straight to your dashboard. Everything is personal to you — your chores, your tokens, your rewards. You can't see your siblings' data and they can't see yours.

Your dashboard shows:

Doing your chores
  1. 1
    Open My Chores
Tap the Chore Tracker tile on your dashboard. Your chores are grouped into sections — Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly and Monthly.
  2. 2
    Check the weekly summary bar
At the top you'll see a blue bar showing how you're doing this week — how many are confirmed, how many are left, and whether a perfect week is still possible.
  3. 3
    Mark a chore done
Once you've done a chore, tap the "Mark done" button next to it. For weekly chores the button will say "W2 done" (or whatever week it is) so it's clear which period you're confirming.
  4. 4
Wait for it to be confirmed
A parent or Admin will confirm your chore. If they don't check within 48 hours, it confirms automatically. Once confirmed, it counts towards your streak and rewards.
ℹ Reading the daily bar
For daily chores you'll see a 7-segment bar showing Mon–Sun:
🟢 Green = confirmed  ·  🟡 Amber = today, action needed  ·  🔴 Red = missed  ·  ⬜ Grey = not yet due
Proposing a trade

If there's a chore you'd like to swap or hand off to a sibling, you can use your tokens to propose a trade. Every trade needs a parent or Admin to approve it before anything changes.

⚠ Check your token balance first
You need at least 1 token to propose any trade. Your balance is shown on your Trades & tokens dashboard tile.
  1. 1
    Open Trades & tokens
Tap the tile on your dashboard.
  2. 2
    Tap "Propose a trade"
Choose whether you want a Swap (exchange one chore for another) or an Offload (hand a chore to your sibling — they can say yes or no).
  3. 3
    Pick the chores
For a swap: choose one of your chores to offer and one of your sibling's chores you'd like in return. For an offload: choose which of your chores you'd like to hand off.
  4. 4
    Send the request
Confirm and send. Your sibling is notified, and then a parent needs to approve it before the chores actually swap.
⚠ Watch out for reward bonuses
If the chore you're trading has a reward bonus attached to it, you'll see a warning telling you which reward you'd lose. You can still go ahead — but you'd forfeit that bonus.
Your tokens

You get 2 tokens at the start of every month. Unspent tokens carry over (up to 4 at most). Your Admin or Parent can also give you bonus tokens as a reward for great effort — these are on top of your regular balance and don't expire the same way.

Token typeWhere fromMaximumSpent
MonthlyAutomatic at start of month2 per monthFirst
CarriedLeftover from last month4 totalSecond
BonusGifted by a parentNo limitLast
Your rewards

Your parent sets up a reward scheme at the start of each month. There are different ways to earn:

TriggerWhat it means
🎯 Perfect weekYou complete every single chore in a week without missing any.
📊 ThresholdYou hit a set percentage (like 80%) for the week — close counts!
🔥 StreakYou hit your target several weeks in a row.
⭐ Task bonusA special reward attached to one specific chore — earned the moment it's confirmed.
📅 MonthlyYou hit a target percentage for the whole month.

When you earn a reward it shows up on your rewards screen. Once your parent has given it to you in real life, they mark it as issued and it clears.

Requesting a PIN reset

Forgotten your PIN? No problem. On the login screen tap "Forgot PIN?" — this sends a reset request to your Admin. They'll generate a temporary PIN and give it to you. Log in with the temp PIN and you'll be asked to set a new permanent one straight away.

Roles & Permissions

Every family member has a role. Your role controls what you can see and do. Admins can change roles for other members (within the limits below).

The four roles
Admin Admin

Full control within the family. Opens and closes monthly cycles, manages zones and the chore library, sets up reward schemes, approves trades, approves join requests and resets PINs. Maximum two Admins per family.

Parent Parent

Confirms or queries completed chores, assigns one-off tasks to children, approves or rejects trades, gifts tokens, and can manage reward schemes when an Admin grants them access. Cannot change member roles.

Child Child

A personal dashboard showing only their own chores, token balance and reward progress. Can mark chores as done, propose trades and view earned rewards. Cannot see any other child's data.

Super Admin Super Admin

App administration only. Can view all families, rename and archive or unarchive them, create other Super Admin accounts and manage the global chore library. Does not have access to any family content. Typically the app owner only.

🔒 Super Admin data isolation
The Super Admin role is intentionally scoped to platform administration. A Super Admin can see that a family exists and how many members it has, but cannot access any family content — no chores, no trades, no reward data, no member personal details. This is a deliberate privacy boundary ensuring family data remains visible only to the family members themselves.

Role change rules
⚠ Important limits
An Admin cannot change their own role. The last Admin in a family cannot be demoted — there must always be at least one. A maximum of two Admins are permitted per family at any time.
PIN resets
  1. 1
    Child requests reset
Child taps "Forgot PIN?" on the login screen. A reset request is sent to all Admins in the family.
  2. 2
    Admin generates a temp PIN
Admin goes to member management, finds the pending request and taps "Generate temp PIN". A temporary code appears.
  3. 3
    Admin shares the code
Admin shares the temporary PIN with the child — in person or by message.
  4. 4
Child logs in and sets a new PIN
Child logs in with the temporary PIN and is immediately asked to set a new permanent PIN before accessing the app.
Chore Tracker

Chores are grouped into zones. Each zone is assigned to a child for the month. At month end zones rotate automatically so every child gets a turn at each area.

ℹ Chore origin badges
REG — Regular scheduled chore  ·  AD-HOC — One-off task  ·  SWAP — Received via a trade  ·  OFFLOAD — Taken on from a sibling
Setting up zones (Admin)
  1. 1
    Create zones
From the Admin dashboard go to Zones → Manage and tap "+ Add zone". Name each zone — for example "Downstairs", "Upstairs" or "Garden".
  2. 2
    Add chores to each zone
Open a zone and tap "+ Add chore". Pick from the library or create a new one. Set how often it repeats: daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
  3. 3
    Assign zones to children
Use the zone assignment section to give each zone to a child for the current month.
  4. 4
    Open the month
Tap "Open month". This generates all the chore instances and makes them visible to children on their dashboards.
Marking chores done (Child)
  1. 1
    Open My Chores
Tap the Chore Tracker tile. Chores are grouped by frequency with a count badge showing how many are in each section.
  2. 2
    Check the weekly summary
The blue summary bar at the top shows confirmed, pending and lapsed counts, plus how many chores are left for a perfect week.
  3. 3
    Mark it done
Tap the "Mark done" button. For weekly chores the button shows the week label (e.g. "W2 done") so it's clear which period you're confirming.
  4. 4
    Wait for confirmation
A parent confirms or queries. No action within 48 hours means it confirms automatically.
✓ 48-hour auto-confirm
If a parent doesn't confirm or query within 48 hours, the chore confirms automatically — so the tracker never gets stuck.
Reading the daily progress bar

Daily chores show a 7-segment bar representing Mon–Sun of the current week:

ColourMeaning
🟢 GreenDone and confirmed by a parent
🟡 AmberToday — mark it done or confirm it
🔴 RedMissed — the day passed without being marked done
⬜ GreyFuture day — not yet due
Weekly progress summary bar

A blue information bar appears at the top of weekly chore sections showing the breakdown for the current week — confirmed, done and awaiting confirmation, lapsed, and still pending. The bar also shows a message: "3 chores left for a perfect week" or "Perfect week achieved! 🎉" when you've hit 100%.

Reading the weekly pills (W1–W5)

Weekly and bi-weekly chores show a pill for each week of the month. The active week shows "W2 done" as the mark-done button label — making it clear exactly which week you're confirming. Confirmed weeks show a ✓ in green, lapsed weeks show in red, and bi-weekly chores show strikethrough on skipped weeks.

Assigning a one-off task (Parent / Admin)

From the chore tracker tap "+ Assign task to child". Choose the child, describe the task, optionally attach a reward from the catalog, and confirm. The task appears on the child's chore screen immediately. Children can also self-assign available tasks — doing so notifies a parent to review and attach a reward.

Opening and closing the month
  1. 1
    Close the month
Tap "Close month" on the Admin dashboard. This locks the cycle, finalises all chore statuses and triggers reward calculations for the month.
  2. 2
    Zone rotation
Happens automatically on close — each child moves to the next zone in the rotation. No manual action needed.
  3. 3
    Open the new month
Tap "Open month" to generate chore instances for the new cycle. Children will see their new chores on their dashboards immediately.
  4. 4
Set up the new reward scheme
You have 72 hours after opening to create a new scheme. After that window you can edit an existing one, but not create a brand new one until next month.
✓ Before you close the month
Issue any pending rewards before closing — and check that all chores you expect to be confirmed are confirmed (not just marked done). Monthly completion bonuses are calculated at close.
Trades & Tokens

Children can swap chores with each other or hand one off to a sibling by spending tokens. Every trade needs a parent or Admin to approve it before anything changes.

The token system

Every child gets 2 tokens at the start of each month. Unspent tokens carry forward, up to a maximum of 4 carried tokens at a time. Parents and Admins can also gift bonus tokens — these are uncapped and are spent last.

TypeWhere fromCapSpent
MonthlyAutomatic at cycle start2 per monthFirst
CarriedUnspent monthly tokensMax 4 totalSecond
BonusGifted by Parent / AdminNo limitLast
ℹ Quarterly reset
Token balances reset each quarter — January, April, July and October. Tokens don't carry across quarter boundaries, so encourage children to use them before the reset.
Swap trades

A swap exchanges one chore for another between two children. Both children spend 1 token. The initiating child picks one of their chores to offer and one of their sibling's chores to take in return.

  1. 1
    Open Trades & tokens
Tap the tile on your dashboard.
  2. 2
Tap "Propose a trade" → Swap
Select "Swap" as the trade type.
  3. 3
    Choose the chores
Pick one of your chores to offer, then pick one of your sibling's chores you'd like in return.
  4. 4
    Submit
Confirm and send. Your sibling is notified and must agree before a parent can approve it.
  5. 5
    Parent approval
Once both children agree, a parent or Admin approves the swap and the chores change hands.
Offload trades

An offload lets a child pay a sibling to take on one of their chores. The child proposing the offload spends 1 token; the sibling accepts or declines for free.

⚠ Reward bonus warning
If the chore being traded has a task bonus reward attached to it, a warning appears showing exactly which reward would be forfeited. The trade can still go ahead — but that bonus is permanently lost for this cycle.
Trade safeguards

The app checks several things before allowing a trade to be submitted:

CheckRule
Enough tokensThe child proposing must have at least 1 token.
No active trade on that choreA chore already involved in another trade can't be traded again.
Chore not lockedA chore waiting to be confirmed can't be traded until it's resolved.
Sibling token checkFor swaps, the sibling must also have at least 1 token to spend.
Approving trades (Parent / Admin)

Pending trade requests appear in the "Trades & tokens" section with a clear approval prompt. Tap the trade to review it — both chores, the children involved and any bonus forfeit warning — then approve or reject. Both children are notified straight away.

Gifting tokens

In the Trades & Tokens parent view, scroll to "Gift tokens". Select the child, use the stepper to set the amount, and confirm. Bonus tokens appear on the child's balance immediately.

Rewards

Set up a monthly scheme to define what children can earn and how. One scheme is active per family per month, with five different ways to trigger a reward.

The five reward triggers
TriggerWhen it fires
🎯 Perfect weekChild completes every chore in a given week with no misses.
📊 Threshold %Child reaches a set completion % for the week (e.g. 80%) — rewards effort even after one miss.
🔥 Streak milestoneChild hits their target for several weeks in a row (e.g. 3 weeks, 4 weeks).
⭐ Task bonusA specific reward attached to one individual chore — fires automatically when that chore is confirmed.
📅 Monthly completionChild reaches an overall target % for the entire month, calculated when the Admin closes the month.
Setting up a scheme
  1. 1
    Open Rewards
From the Admin or Parent dashboard, tap the Rewards tile.
  2. 2
    New scheme
Tap "New scheme". Choose "Start from scratch" or "Use a template" if you've saved one from a previous month.
  3. 3
    Name it
Give the scheme a name your children will recognise, like "Summer Challenge" or "May Madness".
  4. 4
    Select children
Choose which children the scheme applies to. You can set different triggers and rewards for each child.
  5. 5
    Configure triggers
For each trigger type, set the qualifying condition and choose a reward from your catalog.
  6. 6
    Save
Tap "Save scheme". It goes live immediately and can be edited at any point during the month.
⚠ 72-hour setup window
You have 72 hours after the month opens to create a new scheme. After that window closes you can still edit an existing scheme, but can't create a new one until next month.
The reward catalog

The catalog is a library of reusable rewards — things like "£5 cash", "Cinema trip" or "30 min extra screen time". Build the catalog once, then reuse entries when setting up scheme triggers or one-off task rewards.

Task bonuses

A task bonus attaches a specific reward to one individual chore. The moment that chore is confirmed done, the reward fires automatically — no action needed from a parent. Task bonuses are set per child within the scheme form, with chores grouped by frequency.

⚠ Trading a bonus chore
If a child trades away a chore that has a task bonus attached, they'll see a warning naming the reward they'd lose. The trade can still happen — but that bonus is gone for this cycle.
One-off rewards (Ad-hoc)

Parents and Admins can create a one-off task for a child with an optional reward attached, outside of the regular scheme. Children can also pick up available one-off tasks themselves — doing so notifies the parent to review it and attach a reward.

Saving a scheme as a template

Once you've built a scheme you're happy with, save it as a template. Next month tap "New scheme → Use a template" to load it straight away. Templates can be renamed or deleted from the library. You can't apply a template while an active scheme already exists.

Issuing rewards

When a trigger fires, the earned reward appears in the pending list on the parent or Admin rewards screen. Once you've given the reward to the child in real life, tap "Mark issued" to clear it. Children can see any earned-but-not-yet-issued rewards at the top of their rewards screen.

  2. 2
    Confirm any outstanding chores
Check no chores are sitting as "marked done but not confirmed" — these affect the monthly completion % calculation.
  3. 3
    Tap "Close month"
This locks the cycle, runs the full reward evaluation (including monthly completion bonuses), and triggers the automatic zone rotation.
  4. 4
    Zones rotate automatically
Each child moves to the next zone in the rotation order. No action needed from you.
  5. 5
    Open the new month
Tap "Open month" to generate the new cycle's chore instances. Children see their new chores immediately.
  6. 6
Set up the new reward scheme
You have 72 hours to create a new scheme. You can load last month's template or start fresh.

Troubleshooting
ProblemWhat to do
Can't create a reward schemeCheck you're within the 72-hour setup window after the month opened. If the window has closed, edit the existing scheme or wait until next month.
Chore not showing upThe month may not be open yet. Ask your Admin to open the month — this generates all the chore instances.
Trade is blockedCheck the child has at least 1 token, and that the chore isn't already in an active trade or waiting to be confirmed.
Join request not appearingRequests expire after a period. Ask the new member to re-submit if too much time has passed.
PIN not workingTap "Forgot PIN?" on the login screen. The Admin generates a temporary PIN.
Reward didn't fireCheck all qualifying chores are confirmed (not just marked done) — auto-confirm takes 48 hours. Monthly completion rewards only calculate at month close.
Weekly summary bar missingThe summary bar appears for weekly and bi-weekly chore sections. Daily chores use the 7-segment bar instead.
Zone rotation didn't happenRotation only runs when the month is formally closed, not just at the end of the calendar month. Make sure you've tapped "Close month" on the Admin dashboard.
