Family Guide
Your family's home for chores, trades, tokens and rewards — everything in one place.
Everyone has their own username and 4-digit PIN. No passwords, no email needed.
Everyone — parents, children, everyone — logs in the same way. Just a username and a 4-digit PIN tapped on screen. No email addresses, no complicated passwords.
After entering your username, your coloured avatar appears and the PIN keypad is ready. Each tap fills one of the four dots — nothing is typed, so no one can see your PIN over your shoulder.
Every family member has a role that controls what they can see and do in the app.
Your family at a glance — members, join code, zones and quick links to every module.
The Admin dashboard gives you a full picture of your family — who's in it, the join code for new members, and which zone each child is working on this month.
Scroll past the zones section and you reach the four module tiles. Anything needing your attention shows a badge — the amber "3 to issue" means earned rewards are waiting to be given out.
Per-child progress bars for parents, and a detailed chore view with daily and weekly indicators for children.
The family overview shows every child's completion percentage, how many chores they've done, and a breakdown of their chore types — all at a glance.
Each child's chore screen is broken into sections — Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, Monthly and Ad-hoc tasks. A progress summary at the top shows exactly how many chores away from a perfect week they are.
Children can swap or hand off chores using tokens. Every trade needs a parent to approve it first.
Children spend tokens to swap chores with each other or hand one off to a sibling. Every trade goes through a parent approval step — so nothing changes without you knowing.
Set up a monthly scheme with five different ways for children to earn rewards — from a single perfect week to a full-month streak.
Build a reward scheme at the start of each month. Five trigger types let you reward different things — completing every chore in a week, keeping a streak going, hitting a target, finishing a specific chore, or a great month overall.
Detailed instructions for every feature, role permissions, a guide for children, and troubleshooting — all organised by topic.
Which one are you? The steps are slightly different depending on whether you're setting the family up for the first time, or joining one that already exists.
Tap the ⚙ gear icon on your dashboard to access settings. From here you can:
This section is just for you. Here's everything you need to know about using Family Hub — from checking your chores to proposing a trade with your sibling.
When you log in you go straight to your dashboard. Everything is personal to you — your chores, your tokens, your rewards. You can't see your siblings' data and they can't see yours.
Your dashboard shows:
If there's a chore you'd like to swap or hand off to a sibling, you can use your tokens to propose a trade. Every trade needs a parent or Admin to approve it before anything changes.
You get 2 tokens at the start of every month. Unspent tokens carry over (up to 4 at most). Your Admin or Parent can also give you bonus tokens as a reward for great effort — these are on top of your regular balance and don't expire the same way.
| Token type | Where from | Maximum | Spent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | Automatic at start of month | 2 per month | First |
| Carried | Leftover from last month | 4 total | Second |
| Bonus | Gifted by a parent | No limit | Last |
Your parent sets up a reward scheme at the start of each month. There are different ways to earn:
| Trigger | What it means |
|---|---|
| 🎯 Perfect week | You complete every single chore in a week without missing any. |
| 📊 Threshold | You hit a set percentage (like 80%) for the week — close counts! |
| 🔥 Streak | You hit your target several weeks in a row. |
| ⭐ Task bonus | A special reward attached to one specific chore — earned the moment it's confirmed. |
| 📅 Monthly | You hit a target percentage for the whole month. |
When you earn a reward it shows up on your rewards screen. Once your parent has given it to you in real life, they mark it as issued and it clears.
Tap the ⚙ gear icon on your dashboard to reach your settings. You can change your display name, update your PIN, and switch on Night mode for a dark colour scheme — useful if you're using the app in a dark room. Your choice is saved on the device.
Forgotten your PIN? No problem. On the login screen tap "Forgot PIN?" — this sends a reset request to your Admin. They'll generate a temporary PIN and give it to you. Log in with the temp PIN and you'll be asked to set a new permanent one straight away.
Every family member has a role. Your role controls what you can see and do. Admins can change roles for other members (within the limits below).
Full control within the family. Opens and closes monthly cycles, manages zones and the chore library, sets up reward schemes, approves trades, approves join requests and resets PINs. Maximum two Admins per family.
Confirms or queries completed chores, assigns one-off tasks to children, approves or rejects trades, gifts tokens, and can manage reward schemes when an Admin grants them access. Cannot change member roles.
A personal dashboard showing only their own chores, token balance and reward progress. Can mark chores as done, propose trades and view earned rewards. Cannot see any other child's data.
App administration only. Can view all families, rename and archive or unarchive them, create other Super Admin accounts and manage the global chore library. Does not have access to any family content. Typically the app owner only.

Chores are grouped into zones. Each zone is assigned to a child for the month. At month end zones rotate automatically so every child gets a turn at each area.
Daily chores show a 7-segment bar representing Mon–Sun of the current week:
| Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 🟢 Green | Done and confirmed by a parent |
| 🟡 Amber | Today — mark it done or confirm it |
| 🔴 Red | Missed — the day passed without being marked done |
| ⬜ Grey | Future day — not yet due |
A blue information bar appears at the top of weekly chore sections showing the breakdown for the current week — confirmed, done and awaiting confirmation, lapsed, and still pending. The bar also shows a message: "3 chores left for a perfect week" or "Perfect week achieved! 🎉" when you've hit 100%.
Weekly and bi-weekly chores show a pill for each week of the month. The active week shows "W2 done" as the mark-done button label — making it clear exactly which week you're confirming. Confirmed weeks show a ✓ in green, lapsed weeks show in red, and bi-weekly chores show strikethrough on skipped weeks.
From the chore tracker tap "+ Assign task to child". Choose the child, describe the task, optionally attach a reward from the catalog, and confirm. The task appears on the child's chore screen immediately. Children can also self-assign available tasks — doing so notifies a parent to review and attach a reward.
Children can swap chores with each other or hand one off to a sibling by spending tokens. Every trade needs a parent or Admin to approve it before anything changes.
Every child gets 2 tokens at the start of each month. Unspent tokens carry forward, up to a maximum of 4 carried tokens at a time. Parents and Admins can also gift bonus tokens — these are uncapped and are spent last.
| Type | Where from | Cap | Spent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | Automatic at cycle start | 2 per month | First |
| Carried | Unspent monthly tokens | Max 4 total | Second |
| Bonus | Gifted by Parent / Admin | No limit | Last |
A swap exchanges one chore for another between two children. Both children spend 1 token. The initiating child picks one of their chores to offer and one of their sibling's chores to take in return.
An offload lets a child pay a sibling to take on one of their chores. The child proposing the offload spends 1 token; the sibling accepts or declines for free.
The app checks several things before allowing a trade to be submitted:
| Check | Rule |
|---|---|
| Enough tokens | The child proposing must have at least 1 token. |
| No active trade on that chore | A chore already involved in another trade can't be traded again. |
| Chore not locked | A chore waiting to be confirmed can't be traded until it's resolved. |
| Sibling token check | For swaps, the sibling must also have at least 1 token to spend. |
Pending trade requests appear in the "Trades & tokens" section with a clear approval prompt. Tap the trade to review it — both chores, the children involved and any bonus forfeit warning — then approve or reject. Both children are notified straight away.
In the Trades & Tokens parent view, scroll to "Gift tokens". Select the child, use the stepper to set the amount, and confirm. Bonus tokens appear on the child's balance immediately.
Set up a monthly scheme to define what children can earn and how. One scheme is active per family per month, with five different ways to trigger a reward.
| Trigger | When it fires |
|---|---|
| 🎯 Perfect week | Child completes every chore in a given week with no misses. |
| 📊 Threshold % | Child reaches a set completion % for the week (e.g. 80%) — rewards effort even after one miss. |
| 🔥 Streak milestone | Child hits their target for several weeks in a row (e.g. 3 weeks, 4 weeks). |
| ⭐ Task bonus | A specific reward attached to one individual chore — fires automatically when that chore is confirmed. |
| 📅 Monthly completion | Child reaches an overall target % for the entire month, calculated when the Admin closes the month. |
The catalog is a library of reusable rewards — things like "£5 cash", "Cinema trip" or "30 min extra screen time". Build the catalog once, then reuse entries when setting up scheme triggers or one-off task rewards.
A task bonus attaches a specific reward to one individual chore. The moment that chore is confirmed done, the reward fires automatically — no action needed from a parent. Task bonuses are set per child within the scheme form, with chores grouped by frequency.
Parents and Admins can create a one-off task for a child with an optional reward attached, outside of the regular scheme. Children can also pick up available one-off tasks themselves — doing so notifies the parent to review it and attach a reward.
Once you've built a scheme you're happy with, save it as a template. Next month tap "New scheme → Use a template" to load it straight away. Templates can be renamed or deleted from the library. You can't apply a template while an active scheme already exists.
When a trigger fires, the earned reward appears in the pending list on the parent or Admin rewards screen. Once you've given the reward to the child in real life, tap "Mark issued" to clear it. Children can see any earned-but-not-yet-issued rewards at the top of their rewards screen.
A plain-language guide to the terms used throughout Family Hub. Useful for new members and for children using the app independently.
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Admin | The person who runs the family space. Opens and closes months, manages zones and chores, sets up rewards and approves member requests. Maximum 2 per family. |
| Parent | A family participant with extra permissions — confirms chores, approves trades, gifts tokens. Cannot change member roles. |
| Child | The primary daily user. Marks chores done, proposes trades, sees their own rewards. Cannot see siblings' data. |
| Super Admin | App administration only — manages family accounts and the global chore library. Cannot see any family content (chores, trades, rewards). App owner use only. |
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Zone | A named group of chores — for example "Kitchen" or "Garden". Each zone is assigned to one child per month. Zones rotate between children when the month closes. |
| Cycle / Month | The active period the app is running. Opened by the Admin (which creates all the chore instances) and closed by the Admin (which rotates zones and calculates rewards). Not always aligned to the calendar month. |
| Rotation | When the month closes, every child automatically moves to the next zone in the rotation order. No action needed from anyone — it happens on its own. |
| Chore instance | A specific occurrence of a chore on a specific date — created when the Admin opens the month. Different from the chore entry in the library, which is just the definition. |
| Frequency | How often a chore repeats within a cycle: daily, weekly, bi-weekly (every other week) or monthly. |
| Origin badge | A small label on every chore showing how it arrived on your list. REG = regular scheduled chore · AD-HOC = one-off task assigned by a parent · SWAP = you received it via a trade · OFFLOAD = you took it on from a sibling. |
| 48-hour auto-confirm | If a parent doesn't confirm or query a chore you've marked done within 48 hours, it confirms automatically. This keeps the tracker from getting stuck. |
| Lapsed | A chore that wasn't marked done before its due date passed. Shown in red on the progress bar. Counts against your completion percentage and can break a streak. |
| Perfect week | A week in which every due chore is confirmed complete with no lapses. Can trigger a reward if your scheme has a perfect week trigger configured. |
| Completion % | The percentage of due chores that have been confirmed complete in the current week or month. Used to calculate threshold rewards and monthly completion bonuses. |
| W1–W5 pills | The week indicators shown on weekly and bi-weekly chores. W1 is the first week of the cycle, W5 the last. The active week shows a "W2 done" style button so it's clear which week you're confirming. |
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Swap | A trade where two children exchange one chore each. Both children pay 1 token. A parent must approve it before the chores actually change hands. |
| Offload | A trade where you pay a sibling to take on one of your chores. You pay 1 token; they accept or decline for free. Needs parent approval. |
| Monthly token | 2 tokens automatically given to every child at the start of each cycle. These are spent first when you initiate a trade. |
| Carried token | Unspent monthly tokens that roll over to the next month. Maximum of 4 carried tokens at any time. Spent second. |
| Bonus token | Tokens gifted by a parent or Admin as a reward for great effort. No cap. Always spent last. |
| Quarterly reset | Token balances are wiped to zero every quarter — January, April, July and October. Tokens do not carry across these boundaries, so use them before the reset. |
| Trade guard | One of four checks the app runs before allowing a trade. If any fail, the trade is blocked: you need at least 1 token · your sibling needs 1 token (swaps) · the chore isn't already in another trade · the chore isn't waiting to be confirmed. |
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Reward scheme | The monthly setup that defines what children can earn and how. One active scheme per family per month. Created by an Admin or Parent. |
| Trigger | A condition that, when met, earns a reward. The five types are: perfect week, threshold %, streak milestone, task bonus and monthly completion. |
| Reward catalog | A reusable library of reward entries — things like "£5 cash" or "Cinema trip". Built by the Admin and referenced when setting up scheme triggers. |
| Task bonus | A reward attached to a specific individual chore. The moment that chore is confirmed done, the reward fires automatically — no parent action needed. |
| Streak | A consecutive run of weeks in which you hit your qualifying target. Streak milestone rewards fire when you reach a configured length — for example, 2 weeks in a row or 4 weeks in a row. |
| Scheme template | A saved copy of a reward scheme that can be loaded in future months so you don't have to rebuild it from scratch each time. |
| 72-hour setup window | After a month opens, the Admin has 72 hours to create a new reward scheme. After this window closes, an existing scheme can still be edited, but a brand new one can't be created until the next month. |
| Issued | A reward that has been given to the child in real life and marked as such by the parent. Once issued it clears from the pending list. |
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Night mode | A dark colour scheme for the whole app. Toggled in Settings (⚙). Your choice is remembered on the device. On first use the app automatically matches your phone or tablet's system setting. |
| Avatar | The coloured circle with your initial that represents you throughout the app. Colour is chosen when you create your profile and stays fixed. |
| Join code | A short code the Admin shares with new members so they can request to join the family. Found on the Admin dashboard. |
| Temp PIN | A temporary PIN generated by an Admin for a PIN reset. Single-use — you must set a new permanent PIN on your next login. |
Common actions at a glance — daily checklists, the month-end process, and answers to the most frequent questions.
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Can't create a reward scheme | Check you're within the 72-hour setup window after the month opened. If the window has closed, edit the existing scheme or wait until next month. |
| Chore not showing up | The month may not be open yet. Ask your Admin to open the month — this generates all the chore instances. |
| Trade is blocked | Check the child has at least 1 token, and that the chore isn't already in an active trade or waiting to be confirmed. |
| Join request not appearing | Requests expire after a period. Ask the new member to re-submit if too much time has passed. |
| PIN not working | Tap "Forgot PIN?" on the login screen. The Admin generates a temporary PIN. |
| Reward didn't fire | Check all qualifying chores are confirmed (not just marked done) — auto-confirm takes 48 hours. Monthly completion rewards only calculate at month close. |
| Weekly summary bar missing | The summary bar appears for weekly and bi-weekly chore sections. Daily chores use the 7-segment bar instead. |
| Zone rotation didn't happen | Rotation only runs when the month is formally closed, not just at the end of the calendar month. Make sure you've tapped "Close month" on the Admin dashboard. |
| Dark mode isn't saving | Night mode preference is saved per device using the browser's local storage. If it resets, the browser may be clearing storage on close (e.g. private/incognito mode). Use a regular browser tab for the preference to persist. |
| App opened in wrong colour mode | On first use, the app matches your device's system dark/light setting. If you want to override this, tap ⚙ Settings and toggle Night mode manually — your choice will be remembered from then on. |
Answers to the questions that come up most often — covering the "why does it work this way?" moments as well as common edge cases.
Zones rotate when the Admin closes the month. Each child moves to the next zone in the rotation — so the set of chores you're responsible for will change at the start of every new cycle. This is by design so that everyone takes turns at each area of the house.
No — this is the 48-hour auto-confirm. If a parent or Admin doesn't confirm or query a chore you've marked done within 48 hours, the app automatically confirms it so the tracker doesn't get stuck. It counts as a proper confirmation.
There are two stages: marking a chore done (you do this) and confirming it (a parent does this). A chore marked done but not yet confirmed shows in amber. It will either be confirmed by a parent, queried with a note, or auto-confirmed after 48 hours. Check with your parent if you're unsure.
Chore instances are only generated when the Admin taps "Open month". If the month hasn't been opened yet, no chores will show on anyone's tracker. Ask your Admin to open the month.
Bi-weekly chores are due every other week. The weeks a chore is not due are shown with a strikethrough — these are skipped weeks, not missed ones. Only the active weeks count towards your completion percentage.
Unspent monthly tokens carry forward to the next month — up to a maximum of 4 carried tokens at any time. Be aware that token balances reset completely every quarter (January, April, July and October), so tokens don't carry over those boundaries.
The app checks four things before allowing a trade. Check each one: do you have at least 1 token? For a swap, does your sibling also have at least 1 token? Is the chore already involved in another active trade? Is the chore currently waiting to be confirmed by a parent? If any of these apply, the trade will be blocked until the issue is resolved.
No — once a trade has been approved by a parent, it takes effect immediately and cannot be reversed. The chores change hands and the tokens are spent. If there's an error, the Admin can manually reassign the chore, but tokens are not refunded.
If the chore you're trying to trade has a task bonus reward attached to it in the current reward scheme, the app shows an amber warning naming exactly which reward you'd lose. You can still go ahead with the trade — but that bonus reward will be permanently forfeited for this cycle. It's worth considering whether the trade is worth it.
Bonus tokens are spent last, after your monthly and carried tokens. Check your token ledger to see a full log of every token event. If your bonus tokens were spent on a trade, they will appear in the ledger as a deduction.
There are two possible reasons. First, there may already be an active scheme for this month — you can edit it, but you can't create a second one. Second, the 72-hour setup window may have passed. This window opens when the month is opened (or when the family is first created) and closes after 72 hours. After it closes, you can still edit the existing scheme but cannot create a brand new one until the next month opens.
A streak resets if any qualifying week has a lapsed chore — even one missed chore can break it, depending on your scheme's threshold setting. Check the previous week's chore list for any red (lapsed) entries. If the scheme uses a threshold (e.g. 80%) rather than a perfect week requirement, you can still miss one or two chores without breaking the streak.
Earned rewards sit in a pending list on the parent or Admin's rewards screen until they are marked as issued. This happens in real life — the parent gives you the reward (cash, an activity, screen time etc.) and then marks it as issued in the app. You can see your earned-but-not-yet-issued rewards at the top of your own rewards screen.
Monthly completion bonuses are calculated at the exact moment the Admin closes the month — not at the end of the calendar month. This means all chores need to be confirmed (or auto-confirmed) before the month is closed, otherwise they won't be counted in the final percentage.
Yes — one profile can belong to multiple families. When you log in you'll see a family picker screen listing all the families you're a member of. Tap any family to enter its dashboard. Each family is completely separate — chores, tokens and rewards don't cross over.
No — avatar colour is chosen when you create your profile and cannot be changed afterwards. If you'd like a different colour, you would need to create a new profile. Speak to your Admin if this is important.
Night mode preference is saved in your browser's local storage on the device you're using. If it keeps resetting, your browser may be clearing storage on close — this often happens in private or incognito mode. Use a regular browser tab and the setting will persist between sessions.
The "Forgot PIN?" button sends a reset request to your family's Admin. If it appears not to be working, the request has likely been sent but your Admin hasn't seen it yet. Ask your Admin to check their dashboard for pending PIN reset requests. They can generate a temporary PIN for you from the member management screen.
You can still issue rewards after the month closes — they don't disappear. However, it's good practice to issue pending rewards before closing, so the new month starts clean. Monthly completion bonuses will be calculated at close based on the final chore statuses.
No — closing a month is a one-way action. It locks the cycle, runs the reward evaluation and triggers zone rotation. If you need to make changes after closing, speak to your Super Admin who may be able to assist depending on the situation.
The global chore library is managed by the Super Admin and contains a shared set of common chores available to all families. Your family can use these as a starting point or create its own chores on top. Family-specific chores only appear in your family's zones — they don't affect other families.
